Innoventions
Sum of all thrills (presented by Raytheon) is a simulator, plain and simple. To call it a plain and simple simulator is an under statement. Sum of all Thrills is loaced in innoventions
east across from the waste management section. The first thing you will notice is the 4 KUKA Roboarms flailing around with people in them. The first thing that comes to mind is this is exactly
like cyber space mountain in DisneyQuest. Well, honestly...its not all that different. Like cyber Space Mountain, you get to design your own layout for you to traverse. One thing to note, you must be 48 inches tall to even ride
this attraction and both riders must be 52 inches to go upside down. If you are claustrophobic, bypass this ride...it is a tight fit.
On to the attraction. While standing in line, you are handed a credit card sized ID card where your design is tracked. Once you make it inside the first room, you are shown a video on
how to design your experience. Since this is innoventions, there is educational aspect as well. It teaches you the math involved in designing thrill rides (more on this later)
Once past the video, you are in the "design" room where you get to design your experience on tuch screen monitors. First swipe the card and the select from 3 different types of ride: Bobslead, roller coaster and jet plane.
Think of this in order from mild to wild. For me, it cant be wild enough. I'm selecting the jet...maximum speed. On the next screen, you are given a choice of 4 maneuvers, again from mild to wild. This time you are able to "adjust"
the maneuver. To adjust the maneuver, you simple place the ruler on the screen and slide you finger up or down to adjust heigth and rotate the dial to increase or reduce speed of the maneuver. There is one caveout,
you must be within acceptable paramters as shown on the top left of the screen. for example, you can't do a cobra roll at 500 mph. It will not let you move on to the next screen until you adjust the
paramters to an acceptable level. Once this is complete, you do the same thing on the next 2 screens. When I was finished, I ended up going upside down 5 times.
Time to ride, getting into the compartment with the overhead video screen is tight at best. Also, if you get claustrophobic on mission space, this is even worse. The screens are about 12 inches or so from your face.
They have seats for you to try before standing in line as it gets long quick. The ride was very smooth and didnt jerk you around alot. It matched the video on screen very well and didnt make me sick. I have been on a few simulators
where the motion was off a tad and made you feel sick...not here. The cobra roll I selected was performed as if I was on kumba at Busch Gardens...awesome! If you some reason, you get sick the is a stop button you can hit that will immediatly bring
the arm back to the loading platform.
After the ride, you keep the ID card and are able to go online when you get home by going to www.mathmovesu.com. As it states on the card,
"...you can extend your adventure by building another ride, earning points and claiming your bragging rights". Online Registration required. I havent done this yet and probably wont.
Sum of all Thrills is a great addition to an other wise boring innoventions east and I hope Disney adds more "interactive" attractions like this. If you are not
claustrophobic, you should put this attraction on your list of "to-do's" while visiting epcot. Eventought the ride time was a little shorter than I would have liked, it was a alot of fun building and riding
my creation...even my wife loved it and she is not a big roller coaster fan.
